Shooting in inclement weather…

Thinking about shooting an event in the near future I had to remind myself the fact that the weather does not always go the way we had hoped. So how does one shoot in a bit of rain or snow without damaging the camera and lens?  Really… how waterproof are these things and how well...

Mega Cleon and RiData…

Well… two new toys showed up while I was in Stienbach, MB this week. Phottix Mega Cleon C8 Remote for the 50D RiDATA Lightning 32GB Compact Flash (CF) Flash Card It kinda got me miffed that to fire the 50D remotely I would have to buy yet another item… yet the 50D does not have...

admin - Untold horror stories… Chris… come on… show me the links :) . Honestly I couldn’t find any problems with them on the net so far… just good comparisons. :(

Otters… how’d you know they were out already? Ha… just wait till the ice starts receding then the action begins :) March 7, 2009 – 4:26 pm

Chris Pollard - Yay for remote shutters! I love ‘em.

As far as the 32GB card goes … keep an eye on it through your first uses. I was looking at some RiDATA cards yesterday and there are untold horror stories about them. Doesn’t matter what size card either. They have a VERY high failure rate, and seem to corrupt if you sneeze at them. Some said the only way they would use it is a last resort, and they have to format the card after EVERY download to make sure it will still work next time around.

And now that I know the otters are back, I’m going to have to hang around your place like a stalker, waiting for them. LOL Viva la telefoto!! :P March 7, 2009 – 10:18 am

Another light source

What is one of the easiest and cheapest way to add another light source into the composition? Use existing light… and bounce some light from your one light source to create another. Seriously… lets say you have a great natural light coming through the window… or up there in the sky.  You don’t really want...

Compact Flash and living in a rural town

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home2/paramedi/public_html/dennisboyd.info/wp-content/themes/prophoto3/functions/images.php on line 167

When I first purchased my D-SLR I found I had to go out and buy new memory cards.  My old point and shoots took smaller types of flash memory and this new Canon camera took Compact Flash memory. No biggie I thought… just a trip down to the local superstore to pick up a couple...

Chris - Yeah, it’s tough to find CFs in town, short of Camera Corner. But Walmart has 2 and 4GB cards. The stunningly fast 80X ones. But their 4GB is only 35 bucks. 2GB is 18.

No good for your 50D, but GREAT for my XT!! :P

I’m still planning on getting a CF->SD adapter this summer. The slow speeds aren’t an issue with the XT like the 50D, or even your XTi.February 20, 2009 – 7:40 am

Wireless Remotes for XTi and 50D

When I first tried shooting in low light and no lightsituations I found that I could not hold the camera steady at all for the required time it took to get the shot.  Why… well… you try and hold a camera steady without any movement for a 1/2 second to 8 seconds or more… you’ll...

admin - Ohh… just looking through my cybersyncs… there is a phono plug I had put away…that will work with the XTi and the XT. Only problem with using both RF Remote and Cybersyncs on the XT/XTi would be they use the same port, whereas on the 50D they use two seperate ports (as the Cybersyncs can use the PC Port).February 9, 2009 – 12:34 pm

admin - Oh yea… have to say these Cleon’s rock for what they are intended for.

I’ve seen a new version out as well that is supposed to do double duty with firing off camera flashes as well, but the reviews coming in haven’t been favourable at all (basically they aren’t working on the Canon gear for anything but the camera…). So…until they get the new ones sorted out… these seem to be the best deal on the market :) .

As for sitting on the hot shoe… good and bad I guess. I LOVE my cybercyncs but to use them with this you’d have to let the remote dangle. You can hook up another cybersync transmitter from what I understand and use it remotely… as a simple shutter release and fire the flashes as well…

But… thinking if you use this along with the cybersync… you could auto focus, vary exposure times… and control the remote flashes :)

And it does work with your XT by the way :) February 9, 2009 – 12:30 pm

Henaway - You didn’t tell me you picked up a wireless shutter! Sweet. Although it looks like the XTi uses the same 2.5mm plug my XT does. Could have tried my wireless on it last time if you were using it.

I do like the shoe mount on those better than my dangly remote though. Much more secure.February 8, 2009 – 11:55 pm
